10 Major News Stories You Should Know This Tuesday Morning

1. Report from Muna Garage general area in Maiduguri has it that two suicide bombers Monday detonated improvised explosive devises strapped to their bodies at Muna Dalti. No details of casualties as at press time.

2. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed shocks at the alleged moves by the Federal Government to cover huge fraud in the presidency by declaring that it spends N24 billion monthly (N774million per day) to subsidise fuel in the country. The party described the figures and the purported proliferation of fuel stations, used as an alibi for the sudden jump in subsidy pay-out, as fictitious.

3. The Presidential Committee to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the Dapchi secondary schoolgirls, on Monday visited Yobe State. Receiving the members of the committee, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam called on the Federal Government to intensify aerial surveillance to rescue the abducted schoolgirls and enhance general security of the state.

4. A Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court Monday declined to grant bail to six armed Fulani herdsmen who were apprehended by security operatives over the New Year attack and killing of 73 persons in five villages in Guma and Logo Local Government Areas of Benue State.

5. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Monday said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Taraba and his planned visit to Benue, Zamfara, Yobe and Rivers states was an afterthought and politically motivated.

6. Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has installed and energised new transformers, transmission lines in its substations in five states to improve electricity supply in the country. TCN said this in a statement issued by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah in Abuja on Monday.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he does not rush to visit violent-hit states, because he prefers to monitor developments first. Buhari stated this while speaking in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, during his visit to assess the situation.

8. Several people have been reported dead in a fresh attack by suspected herdsmen on Olosu, a village in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State. The Chairman of the LGA, Mr Ogwuche Olofu confirmed that 17 people were killed in the attack. Olofu said many others are still missing following the attack.

9. Armed security operatives Monday evening stormed the home of the immediate past Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Dauda Muhammed.
The operatives believed to be officials of the Department of State Security (DSS) were in the house to evict him.

10. The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige, on Monday assured Nigerian workers of the implementation of a new minimum wage. The minister said that the Minimum Wage Review Committee would submit final report in the third quarter of the year to the National Assembly for due consideration.
