THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ondo Command has certified no fewer than 1,500 vehicles to convey electoral materials and INEC staff during the Feb. 16 elections in 18 local government areas of the state.

Mr Rotimi Adeleye, the FRSC State Sector Commander made this known to newsmen during a one-day capacity building and training organised for officers and men of the FRSC on Thursday in Akure.

Adeleye said: “All vehicles to be used by INEC are to be certified by the FRSC.

“What I mean by certification is that we will ensure we look at the vehicles and also ensure that all things about the vehicles are in place.

“We don’t want a situation where a vehicle will convey electoral materials and discover that there is no fuel in it or to discover that the break fails or something funny happens.

“So, we want to ensure that all the vehicles to be used by INEC are certified by the FRSC. ‘’

The sector commander said that there was synergy between all the security agencies to ensure that the elections are conducted under a very conducive atmosphere.

According to him, all the personnel in the state command are going to participate in the election, except those who have personal challenges.

Adeleye said that the command had partnered with INEC during a programme put together by the headquarters of FRSC on capacity building for officers and men of the FRSC.

He noted that the FRSC had trained its officers and men to ensure that they performed well during the elections on Feb.16 and March 2.

“We are using almost all our personnel in the state apart from those who are pregnant, while those that have health challenges will be excused.

“All our five commands in the state in Owo, Ore, Ikare, Ifon and Ondo will be fully engaged for the elections,’’ Adeleye said.

He urged the officers to behave professionally and shun any act that could indict them at their duty posts during the elections.

“Any officer found wanting will be sanctioned in line with the electoral guidelines before other internal actions follow,’’ Adeleye warned.

He noted that being in uniform was not enough, saying that the FRSC had put machinery in place to fish out fake officers.

“You must put on your uniforms, your name tags and your identity cards must be with you, ’’ Adeleye said.
