Barr. Aida-Nath Ogwuche,, female house of assembly aspirant in Benue state
As 2019 election year draws closer, a female aspirant to the Benue State House of Assembly, Barr. Aida-Nath Ogwuche, has called for more women participation in the coming general elections.
Ogwuche, who is aspiring to represent Ogbadibo State Constituency, while addressing stakeholders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Otukpa on Monday, said it was very unfortunate that no woman is contesting for Benue governorship, Benue South Senate or House of Representatives seat in her constituency.
“Though women are being relegated in today’s politics, but a lot of women also don’t want to dare to come out for political positions,”she said.
She urged women not to be allowed to be subjected, stressing that since they know how to keep the home together, they can as well keep the society together.
“It is actually we women that have the heart to do good to people. The mothers know how to manage the home while the men loose their tempers.
“I was challenged and I said, right in Ogbadibo where I come from, women are very subdued and are made underdogs, as if they do not have a voice. And I said to myself, if the likes of Late Prof. Dora Akunyili who was my mentor and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala could make women proud, then I can do it. I will be the light of Ogbadibo to make other women have confidence in themselves to come out and”.
“I will not step down for anyone, I will not back down for anyone. I will fight this course because that is whom I am and that is what I stand for. So, I want every woman out there to believe in themselves, step out and fight the course they believe in”, the young aspirant said.
Barr. Ogwuche promised to use her network to outdo what the male representatives could not achieve for the constituency in the past.
In separate remarks, former Nigerian Ambassador to Switzerland, Amb. (Dr.) Ogbe Obande, a Chieftain of PDP in Ogbadibo, Chief (Dr.) Sylvanus Itodo and former Councillor, Hon. Sunday Edoka; reiterated the need to encourage the female folk in politics, saying alot of disappointment have been experienced by the crops of leaders who are predominantly men.
Highlight of the event was the official presentation of Barr. Ogwuche to the PDP Chairman in Ogbadibo, Hon. Vincent Amuche.
