As Reps beg for repatration of Nigeria’s stolen wealth

ABUJA-THE United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr W Stuart Symington has warned that Nigerians should be constantly reminded before, 2019 general election that without Nigerians there is no Nigeria.

The warning came from the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, W. Stuart Symington, when he visited the House (Special) Committee on Nigerian-United States Relations/Inter-Parliamentary headed by Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, Egor/Ikpoba Okha.

The Ambassador tasked Nigerians on peace, unity, togetherness, free enterprise not only in the country, but also to its Neighbouring countries, adding that there should be a connection between the leaders and the people.

He noted that the success of democracy in Nigeria will in a long way affect the survival of democracy globally, advising that the nation must fight terrorism, promote economic integration and competitiveness.

The Ambassador noted that Nigeria is profoundly full of citizens who want to have a say in the development of their country.

He explained that “I have visited 35 out of 36 states in this country and all the citizens I interacted with want to play a part in the making of Nigeria.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Rep Agbonayinma told the Ambassador that Nigeria as a nation is seeking the support of other nations to get to its desire goal.

He said: “We ask for your support Mr. Ambassador on the repatriation of our stolen wealth stashed in the United States by corrupt persons, these are proceeds of crime and they should be brought back for the development of our country.

“Nigeria continually seek the support of the United States and other friendly countries to overcome the vices that pulls our nation down. Majority of our citizenry yearn for one united country, devoid of sectionalism and nepotism, built on equity and justice.”

The lawmaker, however, pointed out areas the United States as a country has helped Nigeria to achieve what it desire.

He said: “The United States has been immensely supportive in conflict management, civic and political engagement and improved electoral administration.”
