21 PRP members in police net for alleged violence

Ahead of tomorrow’s presidential and National Assembly elections, the Rapid Response Unit of the Bauchi State Police Command has arrested twenty-two supporters of the Bauchi Local Government Branch of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Chairman of the Party in the area, Suleiman Musa who disclosed this to newsmen in Bauchi, explained that the arrest was conducted shortly after the candidate of the party for the Bauchi Federal Constituency, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi concluded his election campaign on Thursday.
The chairman regretted that despite the high sense of maturity exhibited by the supporters of the party in their campaign activities, police has intimidated them without any reason.
To this end, Suleiman Musa appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Adamu Abubakar to sanction his personnel found intimidating members of the opposition parties before, during and after elections.
According to him, despite all the harassment to supporters of the party, victory is for all the candidates of the People’s Redemption Party apart from President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress.
On his part, the PRP Candidate for Bauchi Federal Constituency, Alhaji Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi alleged that the State Government has planned to use security agencies to intimidate opposition parties during the elections.
Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, therefore, adviced the Police Service Commission and other authorities concerned to as to matter of urgency directed for the immidiate release of their supporters for peace during the polls.
Bauchi State Police Command PPRO, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar confirmed the arrest in a telephone interview with our Correspondent saying that the arrest was in connection with alleged political thuggery by the suspects.
Datti Abubakar added that all those arrested will be arraigned in court at the end of investigations by the Command assuring that the Command is ever ready to deal with every act of insecurity in the state.
