Akure—A 19-year-old secondary school leaver, Chinyere Ebere, has been stabbed to death in Akure, the Ondo State capital, by 25-year-old Saliu Oladayo for allegedly refusing his love advances.

It was gathered from a police source that the suspect allegedly stabbed the girl in her chest and other parts of her body over an argument at Ijoka area of Akure.

Vanguard also learned that the suspect had always complained about the deceased’s attitude towards him,  that she was always abusing  him  as being a lazy man with a bad fortune,  who would not make it in life.

According to the source, “both of them were in the house on the fateful day when an argument ensued between them, leading  to a fight, which led the man to stab the girl on her chest and other parts of her body.”

Police source said the deceased and the suspect, who was presumed to be her boyfriend, was in the house when an argument started, which led to the unfortunate incident.

The deceased reportedly fell and bled to death before help could come.

Some neighbours, who rushed to the scene, met her in the pool of her blood and alerted the police.

It was learned that efforts to save her life were unsuccessful, as she reportedly died before she could be taken to the hospital and before the arrival of the policemen from the Oke Aro Division.

Speaking with newsmen, mother of the deceased, Lovely, said she “was in her shop when a neighbour called her that her daughter, who just finished her secondary school, was allegedly stabbed by a young man.

She said: “My daughter came back from where she went to write her WAEC yesterday. I observed some changes in her, which made me beat her up before the unfortunate incident.”

Police spokesperson, Femi Joseph, said “the suspect was asking the girl to date him which she refused, and was said to have publicly embarrassed the suspect. That infuriated the suspect who allegedly took a knife and stabbed the girl to death.”

Joseph said the suspect had been arrested and is being detained at “B” Division Police station and would soon be charged to court for murder after the police investigation.
