Some victims of the attacks in Gon, Nzumosu, Bolki, Nyanga and Bukuto, Numan Local Government Area, Adamawa State carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen, on Saturday, said they had recovered and buried the corpses of 27, while several other persons, mostly women and children, remained unaccounted for.

The lawmaker representing the area, Sodom Tayedi, who spoke to our correspondent, said it would take three to four days for search-and-rescue efforts to be completed because of the difficult terrain and rising floods.

She said, “There are over 5,000 persons who have been displaced and these people are being camped at Numan. So far, we have buried 27 persons; these are corpses of men, women and children recovered from Gon, Nzumosu, Bolki and Nyanga.

“We are still evacuating them because there are people that are living with their relations in different villages. As I speak, they are being brought by boats. But there are several hundred who are still missing.”

The Adamawa State Police Command said it had deployed two units of mobile policemen to help restore law and order in the area.

The acting Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Habibu, however, could not give the casualty figure from the attacks.

Habibu denied reports that the police received a tip-off before the attacks.
