300 women beneficiaries get N3m starter kits from Bauchi Gov’s wife

A total of 300 women beneficiaries drawn from Misau LGA of the state were on Tuesday presented with starter packs worth over N3m by the Wife of Bauchi State Governor, Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar as part of her efforts to alleviate the plights of women in the state.

The Governor’s  Wife empowered each of the 300 women beneficiaries from Misau local government area of Bauchi state with starter kits worth the sum of N10,000 to support their petty businesses.

The gesture was implemented through her pet project known as the ‘Bauchi Sustainable Women Economic Empowerment and Peace Initiative'( B-SWEEEP)  under its third phase of Women Micro  Entrepreneurship  Support Scheme.

At the official launching of the scheme held at the College of Legal and Islamic studies in Misau, Hadiza Abubakar said that the first phase of B-SWEEEP Women Micro Entrepreneurship support scheme had earlier empowered 500 women on the 29th of August, 2018 from the Bauchi Southern Senatorial  District at the total sum of N5 million.

According to her, B-SWEEEP has been complimenting the efforts of the state government in empowering the lives of its citizens, hence the essence of the Women Micro Entrepreneurship support scheme.

“In this third phase of the empowerment scheme, we selected 300 women beneficiaries from different Women Associations that comprised of all the 16 wards that make up Misau local government area which is in the Bauchi Central Senatorial district”, she explained.

The Governor’s Wife further said that “The objectives of my pet project include empowerment of women through skill acquisition and financial literacy, re-integrating of women and girls school dropouts into formal and non-formal school system and enhancing food security through women participation in agriculture amongst others”.

In his address at the occasion, the State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar said that the state government recognizes the importance of the role of women in the society, hence it has continued to support them by removing cultural and social barriers that prevent them from achieving their potentials.

The Governor who was represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Liman Bello stated that the government will continue to unveil programmes and policies aimed at improving the living standard of women in the state and appealed to the beneficiaries to make the best use of the knowledge and skills acquired by using the money judiciously.

The  Governor’s Wife had on  arrival in Misau visited the palace of the Emir of Misau,  Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman to pay homage from where she later visited pregnant and nursing mothers at the popular Urban Maternity Centre Azare, where she distributed gift items such as detergents, sanitary pads, wrappers, Indomie and spaghetti to the patients.
