Finally, the waiting game is  over. And now, PDP’s governorship candidate, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has been declared the winner of the long-drawn battle for the soul of Adamawa State.

In the early morning of Friday, March 29, 2019, Fintiri was declared the winner of Adamawa governorship poll, after he cleared all the 14 local governments contested for in the supplementary election.

The results of the 44 polling units in the state had been the subject of a political impasse leading to the declaration of the governorship election as inconclusive.

Declaring the PDP’s candidate as the winner, the state Returning Officer, Prof Andrew Haruna, announced that he polled 376,552 votes to beat the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammed, Umaru Jibrilla Bindow who scored 336,386 votes.

With a clear margin of 40,166 votes, the PDP reclaimed the state it lost four years ago to the APC.

The Adamawa governorship election was shifted by INEC from March 23 to March 28, 2019, due to a court injunction that stooped the electoral umpire from holding the supplementary election.

In the 14 local governments where the supplementary election was held, there was no report of a single incident of violence as the exercise went on peacefully.

Meanwhile, there is a court case instituted by the Movement for the Restoration and Defense of Democracy (MRDD) seeking for the annulment of the election over claims that the party’s logo was omitted from the ballot paper.
