A leading telecommunications services provider, Airtel Nigeria, has fulfilled a pledge made to a widow who lost her husband in a fatal accident while on duty as a police officer.
Through its ongoing ‘Touching Lives’ platform, Airtel provided the widow, Mrs Omowunmi Sasere, and her six children, with a furnished two-bedroom apartment in Magboro, Ogun State, a statement from the firm stated on Wednesday.
It said that the company also provided her with professional kitchen equipment to start a catering business along with a 3.5KVA generator, deep freezer, television set and catering utensils.
She was quoted as saying, “After what happened to my husband, life has become unbearable for me. The extended family of my late husband abandoned me and my six children. House rent became a very big problem; feeding my children is with the grace of God; life has been unbearable. But I thank God for this day, because God has used Airtel to bless me and my family.”
Airtel Touching Lives is an inspiring corporate social responsibility initiative that seeks to offer practical relief, succour, hope, opportunities and credible platforms to liberate and empower the underprivileged and hard-to-reach persons in the society, according to the statement.
It added, “Episode 6 of the TV programme would be shown on Africa Magic Urban from 6.30pm to 7pm; on Arewa 24 TV from 7pm – 7.30pm and on Africa Magic Family from 8pm – 8.30pm, all on Sunday, 22nd July, 2018.”
