There was an indication that  the remains Nollywood actress, Aisha Abimbola, would be buried in Canada yesterday’s (Thursday) evening.

A statement by actor and producer, Saidi Balogun, indicated on Thursday that preparations were in top gear to this effect, adding that a programme would also be held in her honour in Nigeria.

He noted, “The burial is being handled in conjunction with the Canadian Government and the family of the deceased based in Canada and TGMAN. However, a candle light procession/ artistes’ night will be held in her honour on Thursday May 24, 2018, while fidau prayers will be offered on Friday may 25.”

As more people continued to mourn Abimbola on Thursday, one of her former colleagues, Lola Alao, had said that there were no plans to raise money for the repatriation of her corpse from Canada.

In a video message, Alao reacted to an apparently questionable move to raise money for the purpose.

According to her, the family of the deceased was not in need of such help.

Last year, stakeholders had to come in to raise money for the repatriation of the body of late Moji Olaiya.

It was said that a former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, bailed them out.

But Alao insisted that Abimbola was a Canadian and that the Canadian government would be involved in the process.

Meanwhile, leading comedian, Ali Baba, has recalled how the deceased hinted him about her ailment.

According to him, she had informed him via a whatsapp message that she had health issues, although the details were not revealed to have been given.

On the contrary, several of Abimbola’s colleagues, including Kabirat Kafidipe, Ayo Adesanya and Kunle Afod, indicated in the tributes they paid her that they were not aware that she had a battle with cancer.

Abimbola, who hit the limelight when she played the heroine in Omoge CampusCampus Girl – died in Canada, where she was receiving treatment for breast cancer.

She was said to be aged 46.
