The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to work more with Mobil Producing Nigeria in the area of oil exploration and development of various communities.
The announcement was made at the inauguration of a technical skills acquisition facility at the Community Technical College, Ikot Akata in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state, where Governor Udom Emmanuel also promised to provide a 21-storey building to serve as the operational headquarters of the oil giant.
“I want to assure you that I am going to provide you with a 21-storey building with which you can use as headquarters of ExxonMobil,” the governor was quoted as saying in a statement.
Emmanuel, who lauded the decision of the oil firm to give back to the host communities in the form of developmental projects, commended the Chairman and Managing Director, MPN, Mr. Paul McGrath, promising to provide all necessary support for the firm’s operations to thrive.
The governor said plans had reached an advanced stage for the construction of an ultra-modern logistic centre in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area to ease the evacuation of goods and complement services that would be provided at the new skills acquisition facility, adding that infrastructure such as roads and electricity would be provided by his administration.
While thanking the state government for the support and cooperation over the years, McGrath noted that through a joint venture with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, quality education, health care and human empowerment would be delivered in several communities across Akwa Ibom State.
