KANO — The Kano State House of Assembly has exonerated Speaker Alhasan Rurum of the allegation of collecting a bribe of over N100 million from Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest man.
The bribe was alleged to have been collected by the Speaker last year in the course of investigation of alleged financial misappropriation levelled against the Emir of Kano Malam Muhammad Sanusi II.

The exoneration followed the adoption of the report submitted by a committee set up to investigate the allegations.
The chairman of the committee Alhaji Hamza Sule Bichi stated that the allegations were baseless and unfounded as the purported giver of the bribe, Dangote denied any knowledge of it.
The Speaker stepped aside for his deputy Hamisu Ibrahim Cidari to preside over the plenary while reading and adopting the report.
Recall that the Speaker resigned his position six months ago to give room for transparent investigation. He later emerged as the Deputy Speaker two months ago following a crisis that was resolved by the Governor Ganduje where he remained until recently when the immediate past speaker, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata was impeached and he returned to the seat.
