American rapper, Kendrick Lamar wins Pulitzer prize for 2017 ‘Damn’ album

American rapper and songwriter, Kendrick Lemar has added another accolade on his shelf after he won the Pulitzer prize for his 2017 album ‘Damn’.


The multiple award Grammy winner was announced as the winner of the 2018 Pulitzer prize of music on Monday, April 16th along with other honorees at the Columbia School of Journalism, New York.

Lemar’s Damn, which is off his forth studio album was released on April 14, 2017 by Top Dawg Entertainment, Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.

Apart from being a critically acclaimed and commercially successful album, it was nominated for multiple Grammy awards, winning best rap album.

The Pulitzer Prize, while praising the musician’s work, described his album as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life”
