The inimitable Ekwe drummer, dancer and songbird of international repute, Anu Lady Ekwe, won the best performance award in the individual category at the just-concluded African Drums Festival, organised by the Ogun State government at the historical Abeokuta town.
The three-day event, which was graced by eminent personalities from all walks of life, including traditional rulers, state governors and diplomats, had over a hundred participants from many African countries and the Diaspora. The event had all the trappings of an A-list international event and Anu gave a breathtaking performance to the admiration of all and sundry. Anu, who was recently conferred with the title of African Ambassador of Music by the leading music school in Nigeria, Tenstrings Music Institute, mesmerised the crowd with her well choreographed dance steps and electrifying drum beats from the stable of Atunda Entertainment, the awesomely creative African youths accustomed to doing the usual things of the entertainment world in an unusual manner.
The organisers of the event and the state government in recognition and appreciation of Anu’s first class performance, rightly adjudged her the best individual performer and gave her a prize of one million naira. The Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Salmot Olapeju Ottun, who presented the cheque to Anu on behalf of the commissioner on Monday, 24, April, 2017 commended her for her lovely performance at the event and said she is a great inspiration to teeming youths all over Africa who are seeking veritable platforms to express their talents and become formidable entertainers like Lady Ekwe Anu. Anu in her response, thanked the organisers of the event for a job well done and for their recognition.
She promised not to rest on her oars and that she would continue to be a role model for youths, not only in Africa, but all over the world.
