lagos—National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Bolaji Abdulahi has called on politicians across party divide to refrain from hate speeches capable of causing chaos in the country.
Abdulahi, who was among a panel of judges, said this yesterday in Lagos, at a social media week forum themed: ‘Online Hate Speech: Can social media reduce its spread?’ organised by Bethphage.
Other panelists at the forum include a renowned cyber security expert, Mr Abdul-Hakeem Ajijola; former Communication Director, Microsoft West Africa and Air France, Mrs. Ngozi Ife Anene and social communicator, Obianuju Ndaguba.
The panellists lamented that the spread of fake news and hate speeches constitute serious threat to peaceful human co-existence.
In his keynote address, Abdulahi, a former Minister of Youth and Sport, recalled how the 2015 general elections polarised the country, saying: “To the issue of what happened in the last general elections. I doubt if Nigeria has experienced anything like the 2015 elections.
”The two political parties (APC and PDP), I would say, were equally guilty of hate speeches.”
