BAUCHI State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare its gubernatorial candidate in the March 9th election, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir winner of the 2019 governorship election in the state when it reconvenes on Tuesday for the continuation of collation of Tafawa Balewa local government gubernatorial election results.
State Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Yayanuwa Zainabari made the call on Sunday while addressing Journalists in Bauchi where he claimed that if the results of Tafawa Balewa local government are added to the votes already declared, their candidate would be leading with over 14, 000 votes.
According to him, the number of votes cancelled at some polling units across the State could not affect PDP’s victory pointing out that President Muhammadu Buhari defeated Atiku Abubakar with 3 million votes but was declared winner despite the fact that the number of rejected votes was over 5 Million.
Yayanuwa Zainabari vowed that PDP would resist any attempt to steal its mandate appealing to the electoral body to respect the choice of the electorate in the State and asked the APC that rejected the decision of INEC to continue with the collation of the earlier cancelled results to go to tribunal if they are not satisfied rather than making utterances capable of igniting conflicts in the State.
It would be recalled that the APC in the State had accused the panel sent by INEC headquarters to the State to probe issues that led to the cancellation of Tafawa Balewa local government results by the State returning officer of bias alleging that the committee denied them fair hearing during the sitting.
Bauchi State APC Chairman, Uba Nana, in a press conference also lamented that the investigative committee did not act on the petition filed by the APC against Bauchi local government election that was allegedly marred by over-voting and thuggery.
