Bayelsa CP orders arrest of trigger-happy cop

The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Mukan has ordered the arrest and immediate orderly trial of Sergeant Timadi Emmanuel for the killing of 20-year-old Tariela Nikade.

Investigations revealed that Nikade was shot by Emmanuel along Tenacious road at about 7.30 pm over a minor argument. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but the efforts to save him failed as he was pronounced dead.

The shooting of Nikade had led to build up of tension around Edipie as angry residents were mobilizing for reprisal on policemen. The situation was however brought under control with the arrest of Emmanuel.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Butswat who confirmed the incident assured that the Bayelsa State Police Command under CP Joseph Mukan would ensure that the public is briefed at the conclusion of investigation.

According to him, the police would not shield any policeman that found himself in the wrong side of the law.

“The Bayelsa State Police Command regrets the unfortunate incident involving a police officer and a resident of Tenacious Road, Edepie, Yenagoa. On 23 November, 2018, at about 1930 hours, Sergeant Timadi Emmanuel attached to a patrol team of Akenfa Division, while on patrol at Tenacious Road, Edepie, under questionable circumstances shot one Tariela Nikade ‘m’ 20 years. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
