Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom

GOVERNOR Samuel Ortom of Benue State, yesterday said that any attempt to rig the 2019 elections in the state would be resisted.

The governor stated this when he received the campaign structure of a former governorship aspirant, Dave Ioremba in government house said that he was aware of people planning to rig the coming elections.

Ortom said that he was aware of grand plan to manipulate the forthcoming election but said that he has confidence of the people of the state to protect their votes.

The governor said that he had left many positions in his campaign organisation vacant so as to accommodate as many more people as possible, expressing hope that with such a formidable campaign structure including many others, his reelection would be guaranteed.

The governor enjoined members of PDP in the state especially those who may still be aggrieved to put the past behind them and work for the victory of the party in next year’s general elections.

He described Mr Iorhemba as a close ally who has demonstrated the fear of God by handing over his campaign structures to him, promising to properly integrate the grassroots mobilizers into the main campaign organisation.

“With the caliber of people that we have, all the plans of some people to rig the coming will fail, because the people have promised to protect their votes,” Ortom said.

The former governorship aspirant, who handed over his campaign organisation to the governor said that his organisation which is grassroots oriented was ready to go into the hinterland to canvass support for the governor’s reelection.

Ioremba, a one time speaker of the Benue state house of assembly who enumerated some of the campaign structures handing over to include personnel, bill boards and offices in some parts of the state as well as branded vehicles, told the governor that he took the decision in good fate.
