According to the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih, the players will be in camp in preparation for the Algeria International Badminton Championship, the Thomas and Uber Cup qualifiers also in Algeria, the African Individual Championships in Algeria, the Uganda International and the Uganda Junior International.

All the competitions will hold in February.

Krobakpor, Anuoluwapo Opeyemi, Godwin Olufua, Enejoh Abah, Habeeb Bello, Usman Ayo Ishaq, Olawale Odunayo and Daniel Phillip are the male players in the Golden Star camp in Katsina.

The women in camp are Adesokan, Deborah Ukeh, Zainab Momoh, Peace Orji, Tosin Atolagbe, Ruth Ebere, Amina Christopher and Omotola Felicia.

Orbih said the federation had begun to source funds to ensure that the players attend the competitions and represent the country effectively.

“It is a busy February for the BFN. We have a lot of competitions to participate in and we have called the top players to camp to ensure that Nigeria is adequately and effectively represented. There are competitions in Algeria and Uganda before the Commonwealth Games in April,” he said.

“The players are ranked top in Africa and the exposure we are giving them will ensure that they grow to be some of the best in the world. We have started speaking to potential sponsors to ensure that we have some funds to attend the competitions and others that we have lined up for the year.”

Orbih said the three coaches in camp with the players would lead them to the competitions. They are Maria Omonehin, George Haruna Shitta and Taju Sulaiman.
