Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo

Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Jalingo the state capital amid heightened tension following last Saturday’s governorship and state Assembly elections in the state.

In a press statement issued in Jalingo on Monday evening and signed by Alh Hassan Mijinyawa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Ishaku said that the curfew was to take immediate effect till further notice.

“The Taraba State government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Jalingo, the state capital from today, Monday, March 11, 2019, until further notice. The curfew will run from 6 pm to 6 am daily.

However, INEC officials, key agents of political parties and observers involved in the collation of elections results are exempted.

“Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has enjoined the people of the state to continue to be law-abiding as he urges security agencies to ensure strict compliance.”

Our correspondent reports that residents of Jalingo have already embarked on self-imposed curfew, with most shops closed and streets deserted consequent on the high tension in the town as the results of the governorship election filter in.
