The Buhari Presidential Support Committee, PSC, in conjunction with South-East Professionals, have threatened to occupy the streets of the entire five South-East States, should the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, fail to issue a Certificate of Return to the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, by the end of business, on Monday.
The communique was signed by Emeka Ugwu and Maxwell Okoye, for the South-East Professionals and Presidential Support Committee, respectively, and made available to Newsmen, in Abuja, on Sunday.
The groups also faulted INEC’s declaration of the Imo State Governorship election results.
They argued that INEC was stepping beyond its legal boundary, by withholding the Certificate, in an election that has been declared, just as they faulted the declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, the winner of the Imo State Governorship poll, describing it as a constitutional infraction.
Warning INEC on the consequences of its action, the groups, said: “We call on INEC, as a matter of urgency, to issue a Certificate of Return to Rochas Okorocha, as Senator-elect, Imo-West Senatorial District, and conduct a runoff election in line with Section 179 (4) of the Constitution of Nigeria. In the event INEC refuses to do the needful by end of business on Monday, March 18, 2019, the streets of the five States of the South-East will be lawfully occupied.”
