Former minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator John James Akpanudoedehe has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is an incorruptible leader and as such will not support any corrupt person as governor of Akwa Ibom state in 2019.

Akpanudoedehe, who stated this yesterday at the Uyo Township Stadium during a solidarity rally in support of Buhari’s reelection as well as his formal declaration to contest for the office of governor next year, stressed that the President has nothing to do with corrupt people.
Addressing the mammoth crowd of supporters, the governorship aspirant however lamented that his teeming supporters who formed and nurtured the party since 2009 amid sacrifices and deaths have not been compensated.
“Is President Muhammadu Buhari a thief? Our president has nothing to do with corruption; therefore, he cannot promote corruption.
“We started this journey in 2009. We have suffered imprisonment. Our people were killed. They have compensated everyone except us. What are we looking for? We are looking for the office of governor of Akwa Ibom state”, he said.
He lashed out at those who are today pretending to love President Buhari in the state, recalling that he was opposed by the same people for campaigning for the President in the last election.
“Since I started this party I have never been compensated. I am not in any political office. All those who have been campaigning for President Buhari today, when we brought the name of the President they were busy abusing us.
“They asked why I was bringing a Fulani man when we have our own from the South-South. Today they want to be more Catholic than the Pope.
How will you not campaign for the president who has given you NDDC on a budget of N500billion a year?
“Therefore I was taught by the progressives on what progressives’ means. Progressives mean the provision of social amenities for the people. There is poverty in Akwa Ibom state in the midst of plenty. Our slogan is change; change corruption. Change impunity”, he said.
Meanwhile other APC Chieftains who spoke yesterday at the occasion have rejected any consensus arrangement for picking the party’s governorship candidate, insisting on direct governorship primary.
Speaking, a former military governor of Ogun and Rivers states Group Captain Sam Ewang(Retd) as well as former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) who is also APC governorship aspirant, Mr. Bassey Dan-Abia urged party members to resist attempt to foist anybody on them as consensus candidate.
They spoke against the backdrop of adoption of Obong Nsima Ekere as the consensus governorship candidate of the party on Monday(yesterday) morning by some APC leaders in the state.
