Caverton Helicopters seal air transport pact with NNPC

Caverton Helicopters Limited, says it has invested in the acquisition of 11 new aircraft which it would be deploying to service the air transport pact it recently sealed with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation/Chevron Nigeria Limited Joint Venture (JV) operations.

The new fleet comprises the state-of-the-art Bell 407 GXP helicopter and the Bell 412 EP helicopter, often referred to as the industry workhorse.

Chairman, Caverton Offshore Support Group, Mr. Remi Makanjuola, stated this at an event to unveil the aircraft held at the ExecuJet terminal of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

Makanjuola said the acquisition of 11 new aircraft by a Nigerian airline to service the oil and gas industry was a feat that should be applauded by stakeholders in the aviation sector given the boost it would give to the government’s local content policy and the drive to create jobs for citizens.

He described the Bell brand of helicopters as highly reliable, safe and known to perform extremely well even in difficult climatic conditions.

“Caverton is fast tracking the national content policy by ensuring that more Nigerians are trained and given the pride of place in recruitment into high technical management positions,” said Makanjuola

“The addition of these helicopters to our fleet will make Caverton Helicopters one of the largest operators of Bell Helicopter products in sub-Saharan Africa. As a fully indigenous player in the hitherto foreign interest dominated sector, Caverton has confirmed the mantra that Nigerians can excel and do the country proud in all facets of the economy given the opportunity,” he added.

Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, who also spoke at the event lauded the management of Caverton Helicopters for the determination, vision and hard work committed towards taking full advantage of the local content law in the petroleum industry.

“The contribution of Caverton Helicopter’s to aviation cannot be over-emphasised. I am proud of the company’s safety record even as an indigenous company. We will continue to support Caverton to raise the bar to become a household name globally,” Baru said.
