The management of Nigerian club side, Enugu Rangers, yesterday denied reports that goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel has signed for Orlando Pirates.
Daniel was reported to have joined the Soweto giants ahead of the start of next season, but Rangers say they have yet to open talks with the Buccaneers
According to the club’s General Manager, Christian Chukwu, Daniel’s contract with Rangers is still running and he (Daniel) continues to honour his contract in his native land.
Chukwu insisted that the Buccaneers have not even opened negotiations to sign the Nigerian Olympian.
“Emmanuel Daniel is a Rangers player. Rangers are the ones to clear him to Orlando Pirates.
“As of today, he has a contract with Rangers and we expect Orlando Pirates to open negotiations,” Chukwu concluded.
The 23-year-old shot-stopper was reported to be on his way to Mamelodi Sundowns when news that he had signed for the Buccaneers emerged.
Meanwhile, Rivers United centre half Gabriel Olalekan will miss today’s clash against Sunshine Stars in Akure.
Olalekan suffered a knock on his left ankle in Wednesday’s rescheduled NPFL game against Kano Pillars in Port Harcourt.
He was replaced by Ayobami Asekunowo in the second half of the clash that finished in a 1-1 draw at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.
Rivers United medical doctor, Vincent Wachukwu confirmed that the defender will definitely miss today’s game in Akure and has been labelled a doubt for the big match against champions Enugu Rangers next Sunday.
“The injury to Gabriel is not too serious.
“It is a knock that will rule him out for the next two weeks.
“He won’t play Sunday against Sunshine Stars but we will see what happens against Rangers in the next eight days.
“(Goalkeeper, Abiodun) Akande will also not play against Sunshine Stars because he had a serious bout of malaria,” Wachukwu told supersport.com.
Olalekan is an important member of the Rivers United side, as he has forged a solid partnership with club captain, Festus Austine in the heart of the side’s defence.
