The Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists has concluded the monitoring and evaluation of water well drilling in Ibadan.

The Technical Director, Geocardinal Engineering Services Limited, the consultant on the project, Titilope Adeyemo, said more than 50 copies of questionnaires were distributed to respondents across the eight local governments in the city including Ibadan South-West, Akinyele and Egbeda.

A statement by the group said COMEG’s membership registration forms were given to more than 40 individual and corporate members.

Adeyemo said though the four-week exercise was not without some attendant hitches, it provided clue on the state of the age-long drilling business in Ibadan.

He said in most of the offices visited, the prominent features were abandoned and moribund drilling rigs and equipment, highlighting the redundancy of many indigenous owners and practitioners.

He said the entrance of foreign investors in the practice might have forced many local operators out of business as they were unable to compete favourably, considering the modern equipment and technology deployed by these aliens.
