BENIN—ETSAKO East Local Government Area of Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been enmeshed in crisis commissioner nominee and other political positions’ names to state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki by leaders of the party in the area.
Members of the party from the area stormed Benin – City, yesterday with over 20 buses to expressed their dissatisfaction with the action of their leaders.
They staged a peaceful protest to the Edo State House of Assembly, the state headquarters of the party and Edo State Government House, demanding the rejection of the list sent by their leaders.
The protesting party members were armed with placards of various inscriptions .
Spokesperson for the protesters, Oba Steven Peter from ward 8 of the council alleged that the leadership of the party in the council sent the names of the nominees to the state governor, Obaseki without proper consultation.
He also alleged that some leaders of the party in the locality, who were instrumental to the victory of the party in the just concluded governorship election in the state were now schemed out.
He also announced a passing of vote no confidence in the leadership of Sunday Adoga and Musa Afegbua as chairman and the vice-chairman of Etsako East council.
Peter also called on the state leadership of the party, including Governor Obaseki to reject the list of nominees which he alleged was concocted in one the bedroom of a particular party member and submitted by the state party officials.
“The list is not from us and is designed to serve some parochial interest of those who do not care about the general interest of our party,” he alleged.
Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Dr Justin Okonoboh and Vincenin Odaze, State Organising Secretary of the party who received the protesters at the Edo State House of Assembly and state secretariat of the party respectively, assured them that their grievances would be channelled to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
