Delta APC faction declares Utomi gov candidate

THE Chief Cyril Ogodo-led factional State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State, has declared Professor Pat Utomi as governorship candidate ahead of the 2019 general election.

Utomi emerged the winner at a parallel governorship primary conducted by the Chief Ogodo-led SWC of the party in Asaba, the state capital.

The generally peaceful exercise started late Sunday and ended in the early hours of Monday.

The result was declared by the APC returning officer, Elder Favour Adibor in Asaba on Monday.

Utomi, who defeated three other contestants, polled 2,486 votes to clinch the governorship ticket at the APC primary.

Other aspirants who slugged it out with Utomi included former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Victor Ochei, who polled 801 to come a distant second and Dr Cairo Ojougboh, a former National Deputy Chairman (South-South) of the Peoples Democratic Party who scored 368 to come third.

The people’s general, Chief Great Ogboru, came a distant fourth position with 106 votes.

A total of 3, 755 votes were cast by delegates at the primary.

TribuneOnline, however, gathered that the Prophet Jones Erue-led faction, also holding a parallel governorship primary at another venue, has begun to count votes cast by delegates.

The aspirants for the contest comprise those who slugged it out in the concluded primary of the Ogodo-led faction.
