ASABA—Tra-ditional rulers in Delta State have pleaded with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to extend by one month the registration for and collection of permanent voters card, PVCs, to enable more Nigerians to register.
The royal fathers contended that feelers across the country indicated that many eligible voters are yet to get PVCs and that the one month extension would afford them the opportunity to obtain PVCs
Speaking through their chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, the Monarchs, argued that the suspension of the exercise on August 17 being proposed by INEC might lead to the disenfranchisement of voters during the 2019 general election.
He said: “The voters card is key to the conduct of free, credible and transparent elections, and we want to say that the participation of a large percentage of the voting population in the electoral process will confer a measure of legitimacy and credibility to the process.”
