WARRI—PUBLISHERS of community newspapers under the aegis of Delta Guild of Indigenous Newspaper Publishers, DGINP, have resolved to give adequate publicity to programmes and policies of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration in Delta State for the appreciation of all Deltans and residents in the state.
The resolution was reached at the guild’s meeting in Asaba, where the media executives and proprietors of state based publications in Delta State, took critical review and analysis of developmental strides of the Okowa administration in the past three years.
Speaking, President of the Guild, Mr. Femi Odonmeta, who is also the Publisher of Warri Voice Newspaper, reiterated the need for all publishers in the state to give adequate publicity to government activities and carry the people along on the programmes of the state government.
He emphasised that looking across the state, there were lots of developmental structures on ground, including completed and ongoing projects, which are, however, under reported and therefore, shielded from a large percentage of Deltans, adding that it was the duty of the community newspapers in the state to ensure that laudable projects are well publicised.
Odonmeta, who called on the league of government officials to endeavour to release vital developmental statistics and information to the community media whenever requested to do so, urged all Deltans to support the Okowa-Ied administration in order for it to succeed for the benefit of all Deltans.
According to him, a better publicity of the programmes and policies of the Okowa administration remains the panacea to the second term bid that the governor is currently pursuing.
