Edo cycling tour gets May date

Organisers of the Edo Cycling Tour have picked May 14 – 18, 2018 as the date for the maiden edition of the competition, its spokesman, Mr Osaretin Emuze has disclosed.

Emuze said that the 3-day tour will see over 300 cyclists drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja competing for honours in the male and female categories.

“The  race is expected to be flagged off in Ososo in Akoko Edo local government of Edo state and end in the state capital, Benin City. The Olososo of Ososo will flag-off the race on May 14 while the Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki will receive them on May 18 in Benin City,” he said.

He added that the riders are expected to ride through Igarra, Ibillo, Samorika, Okpella, and end up at Iyamho, home town of former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

Emuze said that the Day-2 of the tour will be flagged-off  by Oshiomhole at Iyamho and it will take the cyclists through Agenebode, Afuze, Otuo, Uzeba, Sabongida-Ora, Iruekpen and terminate at Ekpoma, adding that the Enogie of Ekpoma is expected to flag-off Day-3 of  the race from where the cyclists are expected to ride to Benin to end the tour at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium with Governor receiving them.

“The governor will give winners of the male and female events their medals and trophies,” Emuze said, adding that Neo Media in conjunction with some captains of industries and the Edo state government are sponsoring the cycling tour.
