Leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) including its Chairman, Uche Secondus, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and Rivers State Governor Nysome Wike over the weekend stormed Delta State as people of Anioma endorsed the state governor for second term.

According to the organisers of the event, the decision to receive Governor Ifeanyi Okowa after three years in office is in recognition of his commitment to the actualisation of his campaign promises.

Guests at the event described Governor Okowa as an illustrious son of Anioma who has delivered dividends of democracy in all parts of Delta State and therefore deserves re-election for a second term in office.

Secondus in his address said the PDP remains the only hope for Nigeria in the 2019 elections. He lauded Governor Okowa for the achievements in the state.

“We are proud of your son, we are proud of his achievements. On behalf of the National Working Committee, we salute our governor. This is a new PDP. We will regain our lost grounds. No amount of intimidation, no amount of blackmail will stop Nigerians from voting PDP in 2019,” Secondus said.

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu also joined voices to endorse Okowa for a second term in office.

“I join the people of Delta State to take the decision to return Governor Okowa in 2019. I commend Governor Okowa for doing justice to all manners of people and ensuring justice, fairness and equity in his activities,” he said.

Governor Wike in his speech asked Okowa to prepare for the swearing-in. He described Okowa as a gentleman who is dependable.

In his response, Okowa said the endorsement will spur him to do more for people of the state.

“I thank you all for this wonderful event. In 2015, Delta State did something that strengthened the unity of our people. Although we are diverse in ethnicity, we believe that we are one people.

“We came at a time when there were challenges but, because of the support of all, we were able to wade through the turbulent days; the dark days are over and we shall grow to greater heights,” Okowa said.
