Now, this is one beef that caught many fans by surprise! Rapper, producer and leader of the Trybe collective eLDee the Don wasn’t having it when Olu Maintain performed Big Boy, a 2008 track that eLDee featured Olu, Banky W and Oladele on.
Olu Maintain had performed the track in New York to the delight of fans in attendance and it rubbed eLDee the wrong way. In a now deleted caption, he accused Olu of trying to steal the song for himself back when it was recorded. “This shameless nigga out on stages performing my songs like he created it. I still remember how he tried to steal the record after I put him on it, forcing me to put it out prematurely. Nigga ran off with the unmastered draft and went to print CDs with himself as the lead artist, even his verse was written by me #Appropriation #getyourownshit Lesson to young artist Don’t ever do pity features.“
He has since apologized for the outburst, explaining that it was out of his character to react that way.
“Last post was out of character. If you know me, you know that I don’t usually sweat shit like that. Sorry if I offended you but I have a lot of stories I never got to tell about the shady nonsense I kept quiet from in that industry,” he wrote.
Big Boy was eLDee’s third album and the title track was wildly popular. It never had a music video to the consternation of many fans. With this revelation by eLDee, it makes it clear why a video never happened.
