ENUGU—COMMUNITY leaders in Enugu State have demanded for more Continuous Voters Registration machines in different units of the state.

The stakeholders lamented that whereas more people have been mobilised to obtain their permanent voters cards, the available registration machines were not enough to register them, coupled with frequent breakdown of the few machines.

In an INEC organised stakeholders forum on CVR and election preparation update in Enugu, yesterday, traditional rulers, politicians and civil society groups all hampered on the need for provision of more and efficient registration machines in different parts of the 17 local government areas of the state.

A traditional ruler from Nkanu West local government area, said more machines were needed in his Amuri community.

In the same vein, a state House of Assembly member, Hon. Paul Nnaji said “there are inadequate machines, papers and all materials for registration in Nkanu East local government area.”

A former commissioner in the state from Udenu local government, Mr. Caesar Ogbonna said “more registration machines should be provided. The available machines work slowly and cannot take more than 50 persons a day.”

Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr Emeka Ononamadu said the additional aim of the stakeholders forum was to share ideas, discuss identified genuine concerns and keep all stakeholders on the same page.
