The Senate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, has elected Prof. Chike Anibeze into the Board of Governing Council of the University.
Anibeze, who is the Dean Faculty of Basic Medical sciences of College of Medicine beat four other professors to be elected with Prof. Fred Eze into the Council.
A Professor of Anatomy, Anibeze said his victory in the election was anchored on his strong passion to address the issue of stagnant promotion that has remained a concern to staff of the University.
“It is not like a trade union thing but I will objectively convince the council on what and what we will do to the Senate members so that we can uplift the University,” said Anibeze.
He said that to overcome the impasse would not be a demonstration of Aluta Continua kind of struggle but with a positive attitude based on achievable variables.
“I saw a number of problems inherent here especially the staff stagnation and so on; people will be on the same level for a long time and I felt it’s a Governing council affair, which is the employer of the staff of the University. You can conceive the governing council that staff promotion should come when it is due. We are not saying that you promote people who are not qualified but let it be regular. I equally discovered that it is not easy for the Vice Chancellor to undertake promotions easily because promotions go with their benefits which involve a lot of money.
