•as Edo speaker clamours for financial support
Head coach of the team, Roland Ewere, has expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation done by the team for the take off of the new football league.
He hinted that he has submitted his programme to the ministry of sports and that the only thing giving him sleepless night is how to get a strong attacker into the team that can lead his attacking squad.
“So far we have done our best in terms of preparation for the season. We have finished with the issue of recruiting players, we have a lot of them that came for the screening and selection exercise.
We have selected players that can stand the test of time and work assiduously to ensure that Insurance FC gains promotion to the professional league. But one area that gives me sleepless night is my attacking department. I‘m in serious need of a ruthless, strong, reliable and fearless attacker that will lead the attacking squad. If that is done, we are home and dry”.
“We also want to appeal to the state government to give us the needed attention in all round development of the game as we promised to deliver Insurance FC out of the lower league to take football to the peak in Edo State.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Dr. Justin E. Okonoboh, has urged Edo state football fraternity to give their total support to Insurance Football Club of Benin in the fight to return the club to the elite league as they warm up for the 2016 – 2017 football season.
The sports–loving medical doctor turned politician said the present government led by Godwin Obaseki and the legislative arm of the government is fully ready to throw its weight behind the state owned club and other sporting associations in the state to ensure that Edo state regains her lost glory in sporting activities in Nigeria.
“I think Insurance FC and sports generally need maximum support from us, and all major stakeholders in the state to enable our sports come out of its moribund level. The leadership of the state under Godwin Obaseki and that of the House of Assembly is ready to do all they can to ensure that the youth empowerment programme of this administration reach the door step of Edo people.”
“Look, we have a governor that is passionate about his people, he loves the good people of Edo. We are very committed to ensuring that we deliver the dividends of democracy to the people and there are several means of achieving it. So in the field of sports, this government will give top priority to it, this is why it is very important for people to understand what we are doing. We are working, and we can only help you to the extent that you can provide us with input to do that.
In this time of economic quagmire, no reasonable government would want to waste the state’s resources on something that would not yield result. The Insurance FC squad will get good support from us, but they must equally be ready to give us good results. We are all ready to help turn the fortune of our sports around.”
