A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic in Benue State, Lawrence Ugbo, has been allegedly killed alongside seven others during a clash claimed to be between two brothers loyal to the PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC, party respectively.

Reports said late Ugbo was murdered and dumped in his car after which the car was set ablaze by his attackers.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Ondo Ugboju in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The reports said trouble started when some loyalists of one Benjamin Ijachi, a member of the PDP, allegedly attacked another group loyal to Udenyi Ijachi, a member of the All Progressives Congress, and a former caretaker chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area on Wednesday.

The development quickly turned bloody, leading to the death of the victims while many others sustained injuries when Udenyi, popularly known as Kpem, was said to have, in the early hours of Thursday, mobilised his loyalists and launched a reprisal attack on the community, shooting at anybody on sight.

The state’s police spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident. He said only four persons including the Ex-PDP chair lost their lives while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

According to him, the clash was between two Ijachi brothers and that the force had already arrested one of the brothers called Benjamin. He however said that the suspect’s sibling, Udenyi, was still at large.
