Former US presidential candidate, John McCain, on Friday announced his decision to discontinue treatment for his cancer.

In a statement shared by Cindy McCain, his wife, on her Twitter handle, @cindymccain, the former president said he was discontinuing his treatment due to age and the effect of chemotherapy.

McCain was diagnosed with aggressive glioblastoma last year. He is 81 years old.
