ABUJA Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Tuesday, cleared all illegal mechanic workshops, food joints, roadblock and filths around popular Jabi Motor Park, Abuja.

The Council’s Coordinator, Umar Shuiabu, who led a team comprised of the departments of Development Control; Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB); Parks and Recreation; including security operatives, drawn from the Nigerian Army, Police, Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to carry out the exercise, said the action became imperative to ensure that the FCT maintained its cleanliness.

While speaking with newsmen, Shuiabu said the area was notorious for being a den for hoodlums and street hawkers who indulged in such nefarious activities, drug peddling, crimes and illegal mechanic spots, thereby causing discomfort and nuisance to those living around the area.

The coordinator said after cleaning up the area, any owner of plots of land in the area who failed to develop them would risk the imposition of penalties, including revocation and reallocation of such undeveloped plots to those with a capacity to develop them.

Shuiabu, who was represented by the Director, Department of Advertising and Signage, Yusuf Ibrahim Yakassai, therefore, urged the affected people to find lawful places for their business activities, instead of constituting a nuisance in the territory.

He said the exercise would be a continuous one, pointing out that the FCT administration would find a way of preventing reoccurrence of such illegality within the territory.
