Some property of the United Bank for Africa has been burnt as fire gutted the firm’s office on Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the fire which started around 11.53am , was ignited as diesel  was being poured  into some  generators serving the office.

It was gathered that three generators, one Toyota car and diesel tank were burnt in the outbreak.

Our correspondent learnt that the state fire service responded to the fire and put it out.

The General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Adesina Tiyamiyu, confirmed the incident

He said, “We got a call about the incident and we went there to put the situation under control. There was no casualty.

The Acting Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Musibau Rasaq, said, “We got the call at 11.53 and got there by 12 noon. Our stations in Lekki Phase one and Ilupeju responded to it and it was curtailed.

“The fire only burnt the generator house and it affected the generators.”

In Abia, a popular night club in Umuahia, De- Latinos, was gutted by fire on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the inferno occurred barely six months after another fire incident burnt a portion of the club.

A statement by the spokesperson of the club, Nwokocha Liberty, explained that the fire started at about 11.30pm on Tuesday.

He said the fire was put out by the workers of the club and other emergency responders.

Liberty attributed the cause of the fire to sabotage.

The statement read in part, “The fire was is likely to be due to sabotage, and not an electrical fault as being speculated by some people.

“No life was lost during the incident, but property worth millions of naira were destroyed.”
