In line with its mission to attract development to communities nationwide, Beltij Limited, a gold-mining company, has donated three boreholes and learning materials to Igun Ijesa community in Osun State.
During the inauguration recently, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tijani Usman, said the organisation was committed to the provision of innovative solutions that support Nigerians as well as empower communities to do more by staying healthy all times.
He stated that the issue of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in developing countries should form part of the business strategic plans of organisations, because expectations and awareness of host communities now influence the operations of both multinational and indigenous firms.
According to Usman, “as there has been a growing demand for companies to offer community development initiatives within which they are carrying out their operations.
Beltij Limited has executed three broad platforms: education, health and environment.”
Usman noted that as awareness about the fragility and volatility of the environment gets intense, global concerns about the planet’s sustainability and continuity had equally assumed high dimension.
He said: “It has been well known that ever since a company is doing business, it can possibly harm the environment through its day to day work activities. Therefore organisations must assume responsibility and consider minimising their footprints on the natural environment.”
The Oba Onigun of Ijesa, Chief Sunday Oladipo Ajilore, thanked the company for the gesture, adding that the donation has solved the community’s perennial water challenge.
