The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, has called on leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to caution their members in the state.

The call by the CP came after pandemonium broke out during the PDP’s visitation meeting which held on Saturday, July 21, at Igbosuku Village, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The police, in a statement on Sunday, said the meeting which ended in disarray, led to the death of the PDP chairman in the Apapa LGA, Borishade Adeniyi.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, explained that a fracas broke out between contending factions of the party led by Moshood Salvador and Kehinde Fasasi respectively.

“In the melee, one Borishade Adeniyi was allegedly shot and injured on the leg and was rushed to First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, where he was treated but eventually died.

“The corpse of the deceased was deposited in the hospital mortuary and two other persons allegedly injured during the clash were also receiving treatment in a hospital in Ajah,” the police spokesman said.

He added that five suspects had been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

He said, “In a swift reaction, the CP directed the Area Commander in charge of Area ‘J’ Elemoro to ensure the arrests of all those involved in the crime.

“Pursuant to the directive, five of the principal suspects were arrested and they include the Eti-Osa LGA Chairman, Kehinde Fasasi; Lagos Island LGA Chairman, Rotimi Kujore; Mushin LGA Chairman, Alhaji Fatai Adele; Amuwo-Odofin LGA Chairman, Mr Ismail Abiola; and Surulere LGA Chairman, Dr Amos Fawole.”

Oti said the Commissioner of Police was bothered about the incessant use of firearms by political thugs in the state and called on all political parties in Lagos to disarm their members as the command would not tolerate any political party that would disrupt the peace in the state.

He said, “The CP is worried about the use of firearms and the frequency of violence involving the PDP in the state. It will be recalled that on July 12, 2018, two suspected party thugs, Wale Oye, 37,  and Ganiyu Ajiboluwa, 47, were arrested at Festac Extension by Apple Junction, Amuwo Odofin with two pump-action rifles given to them by their hirer, one Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu, a member of the PDP in the Lagos State House of Assembly, to escort him to a political rally. The said Honourable Dipo Olorunrinu was arrested and they are all helping the police in the investigation of the case.
