Nabena to APC: Roll out zoning formula now, says
By Omeiza Ajayi
ABUJ – Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Yekini Nabena has asked his party to immediately unveil its zoning formula for the next leadership of the national assembly, alleging of fresh plots by Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to again decide the leadership composition of the 9th Assembly.

Yekini Nabena: accuses

The plans, according to Nabena has the support of a former Head of State, warning his party to urgently rollout the zoning arrangements to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2015.

Both incumbent Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara emerged Senate President and Speaker against the party’s wish in the outgoing 8th National Assembly.

Addressing journalists Tuesday in Abuja, Nabena alleged that the outgoing Senate President and his party PDP have devised plans to ensure that their loyalists take control of the legislative arm of government.

Nabena said: “The outgoing Senate President and the PDP caucus have begun surreptitious moves to lure some new APC lawmakers with juicy committee positions in return for their support for the PDP choice for the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives.

“Already, Saraki’s henchman, Dino Melaye and some other returning PDP federal lawmakers have scheduled meetings with some APC lawmakers from Wednesday to Sunday in a yet-to-be announced venue.”

While calling for urgent intervention by the APC leadership, the Deputy spokesman stated that “it is important that the APC leadership meets and urgently rollout a fair zoning arrangement to ensure that we produce our preferred candidates for all leadership positions in the incoming National Assembly.

“Since Saraki lost his bid to return to the Senate and control of his home state, Kwara, he has devised a plan to ensure that he influences the choice of the incoming National Assembly Leadership. This is Saraki’s last-ditch effort to remain politically relevant.”
Don’t celebrate over Bauchi

Nabena also asked the PDP not to be in a hurry to celebrate developments in Bauchi state, saying the former ruling party should forget the dream of taking over the governorship seat of the state as the APC is prepared to retain that seat.
He also faulted INEC’s declaration of the Peoples Redemption Party PRP House of Representatives candidate in Bauchi’s Katagum Federal Constituency, saying such “should have been declared inconclusive because the number of cancelled votes, 5, 211 is more than the margin of lead which is 4, 704.”

“If not that there was a grand plot to rig out Gov. Mohammed Abubakar, how come APC won 21 State House of Assembly seats compared to PDP’s 5 seats in the state in the election conducted on the same day?”

According to him, the reported non usage of Card Readers in Bauchi Local Government Area “is a major issue that should not be disregarded by the electoral empire.”

“The opposition PDP knew that that if rerun election is held it will lose the election to APC. Maybe the opposition felt that if that position had not been taken by INEC, they would have won. But that is not the issue. The issue of election is not about winning or losing. It is about having a free and fair election. So, it is the free and fair conduct of the election that matters to all of us and to the whole world. I say so because if the election is not free and fair there will be no issue of inconclusive; it must be concluded. So we are challenging the INEC not to give PDP undue advantage in Bauchi governorship election.”

Appoint party’s national secretary now, APC leaders told

While justifying the need for a rerun in Tafawa Balewa LGA, Nabena said the Returning Officer for the area, Mrs Dominion Anosike, told the world how she was intimidated and harassed while collating the results.

“She was even threatened. They threatened to rape her. She was a woman and she said it herself. The answer is there. There was tension everywhere in the place and she was forced to sign the document under that atmosphere”.
