The Federal Government yesterday began a crackdown on oil marketers sealing more than 10 pumps at Dan Oil and Forte Oil filling stations in Abuja for fraudulent charges.

Their sales permits were also revoked pending rectification of all anomalies by the marketers. The Weight and Measures Department of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment carried out the exercise to ensure that all commercial transactions are accurately measured in line with laid down legally acceptable procedure.

Briefing newsmen yesterday after inspection of selected filling stations in Abuja, the department’ s Acting Director, Engineer Muhammed S. Sidi said 10 pumps at Dan Oil and Forte Oil filling stations in Maitama and Lugbe Airport road were found cheating customers.

He said: “ We discovered that for every 40 litres of fuel customers buys, they were overbilled by a litre. This kind of transactions translate to cheating the Nigerian customers of N193, 875 for every truck of 33,000 litres sold.

This is un-acceptable and this is why we are out for this routine checks.“We are revoking their permits or licenses earlier issued to them. We have also locked up 10 pumps at the two filling stations until the anomalies are addressed.”
