COALITION of groups has passed a vote of confidence on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomole, following issues surrounding the emergence of Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the party’s flagbearer in Ogun.
Tribune Online recalls that the party on the state had been unsettled since the announcement of Abiodun as the winner of the October 3 governorship primary in the state, while the State executive of the party, had declared the Hon Adekunle Akinlade, the winner of the governorship primary held on October 2.
The groups include Ogun Progressive Students, Ogun Youth Assembly, Coalition of Ogun Traders and some civil society bodies on Monday, staged a peaceful protest against the insistence of the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to hand over the reins of power to Akinlade.
The groups were led by Comrade Adeyemi Azeez, the convener of Ogun Progressive Youths and Students, Abdul Kabir Ayoola and the convener of Movement for Secured Nigeria and Secretary, Ogun Arewa Council, Idris Muhammad respectively.
Addressing newsmen, Ayoola, said the groups are not in support of any consensus candidate against the collective decision of the people.
“The conscious minded Ogun state citizens have observed with keen interest, the continued insistence of Governor Amosun to indirectly run a third term government by imposing his solely anointed candidate.
“We implore him to accept the democratic decision of the teeming members of APC in Ogun State, they have made a legitimate choice of Dapo Abiodun.
” If at this point in time, we fail to speak, history will never forgive us, neither will posterity judge us well. The above bodies make bold to stage this protest against the determined mission of the Governor of Ogun state to drag the hard-earned integrity of Ogun State into the mud.
“It is as well important to remind Governor Ibikunle Amosun on how he was favoured with the ticket of the party in 2011 against the interest of the real years back committed members of the party, that has been peddling and sacrificed a lot for the sustenance of the party before his arrival,” he added.
On Oshiomole, Ayoola said, the party’s national chairman has done excellently well in handling the affairs of the party.
He said, “It is on this note that we commend comrade Adams Oshiomole for restoring decency, dignity and decorum to the fabric of the party. We hereby PASS A VOTE OF CONFIDENCE on Comrade Adams Oshiomole, the national chairman of APC, he has performed excellently in handling the affairs of the party beyond expectation.
“We implore him not to get discouraged by some comported persons that will be acting under forces, making condemnable words against him. We see them as hungry persons that are ready to sell their future for peanuts.
“Finally, we call on the NWC of APC not to bow to an unpopular call be some few resourcefully opportune persons, calling for the withdrawal of the popular mandate given to prince Dapo Abiodun. Dapo Abiodun is the choice of the masses beyond APC itself,” he added.
