National handball tourney

Samuel Ocheho, President, Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), has said that they are seriously strategizing to ensure that hidden talents are discovered for the national teams through the Prudent Energy Handball League.
Ocheho told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the first phase of the league, which commenced on Friday in Abuja, would end on May 6.
“I am expecting to see new talents, new skills been displayed, and this will help us pick new players for the national team.
“For me, the league is going to be showcasing of talents for the country and that gives us an idea of what we really have as talents in our pool.
“Prudent Energy League is the premier league which is the highest competition in the country; I am looking forward to build a youthful national team and we hope to build on experience along the way.
“This is the maiden edition; we have a new sponsor and our players are ready; the federation is also ready for the league,’’ he said.
Ocheho said all hands were on deck to make the championship a great one, while observing that 22 players were expected, comprising 12 males and 10 females.
NAN reports that Handball Federation of Nigeria had earlier announced Prudent Energy as the new sponsor of the first phase of the Premier League.
The league has N4.5 million as prize-money and Prudent Energy signed a five-year contract with the federation.
The winners will get N1 million; the second placed — N750, 000 — while the third-place winner will get N500, 000.
