ICTRD holds roundtable on constitution

The International Centre for Tax Research and Development (ICTRD), will be launched tomorrow at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to the Founder/President of the Research Centre, Mrs. Morenike Tejuade Babington-Ashaye, the launch will be marked by a keynote address on, “The Importance of Taxation in Nation Building”.
She explained that due to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode’s interest in taxation and the judicious use of taxpayers’ money, he has been selected to give the keynote address to declare the research centre open for operation.
He will be supported by Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who will be represented at the event.
Other expected dignitaries include Iyalode Alaba Lawson, NACCIMA President, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu of Lagos. ICAN and CITN presidents and past presidents of trade associations, permanent secretaries, directors general of relevant institutions, and many distinguished Nigerians.

She said ICTRD offers to support the government in the area of research and development, the provision of information for effective use of taxpayers’ money, formulating efficient policies and imbibing modern tax administration practices. The centre will also assist in taxpayers’ education and also help organisations in ensuring that they obtain a fair deal in the tax system.
She said the ICTRD event is free as it is sponsored by ACCERS, a forerunner of ICTRD.

There is a morning event tagged,  “Constitution Round Table, which  will discuss the fundamental objectives and directive principles for state policy of the 1999 constitution as amended – Chapter 11.
She explained that the effective allocation and distribution of power, duties and resources are the essence of a good constitution. These will reduce cost of governance, prevent misinterpretations, ambiguity, conflicts, provide a secured society, eradicate corruption and ensure political and economic stability.
The Round Table has Hon. Wole Oke as the Chairman of the event, who will declare the event open. He will be supported by two Guest of Honour, Chief Mrs. Toyin Olakunri and Hon. Kehinde Odeneye. The three groups will be chaired by eminent Nigerians who believe that the time for change is now. The Political Group will be anchored by Mr. Ayo Opadokun and Mrs. Titilola Akinlawon, the Economic Objective Group is anchored by Barrister Emmanuel Obham and  Comrade Ari Ayuba while the Social Objective Group is anchored by Engr. Olu Maduka and Mrs. Franka Inok.
