Ikeja Electric and health maintenance company, Hygeia, have donated free mosquito nets to residents of Agboyi-Ketu Local Development Council Area of Lagos.

The event, which was aimed at sensitising members of the community on how to prevent malaria and other deadly diseases, also saw officials of IE educating residents on how to protect themselves against accidents that could be caused by electrical installations in the area.

Speaking during the exercise, Chief Technical Coordinator of IE, Engr. Sunday Oyewole, said that apart from ensuring that all electrical installations under their care do not pose any risk to the residents, the donation of free mosquito nets was to further highlight the importance the company places on the safety of consumers.

He said, “Malaria is a very big problem in Nigeria today and that is why we have partnered with Hygeia to talk to residents of Agboyi-Ketu on this deadly disease.

“Apart from protecting our consumers against this sickness, we have also made sure our cables and electrical installations in the community do not put the people’s lives at risk. We will continue to ensure that the people are safe at all times.”

While revealing their commitment to protect more communities across the country against malaria, an official of Hygeia, Ada Monica, said that they would continue to partner with more organisations to achieve the goal.

She said, “As an organisation committed to the wellbeing of Nigerians, we will continue to partner firms like Ikeja Electric to eradicate malaria and other deadly disease from our communities.”

The leadership of the council thanked IE and Hygeia for the items, saying it would go a long way in preventing sicknesses in the area.
