…Says it’s Rohr’s duty to get his replacement

Chairman of Nigeria Football Federation, Chris Green Thursday claimed the widely reported threat by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr was strange to the football house. He also spoke on the ailing Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme and more.

Chris Green spoke with Tony Bekederemo of Brila fm radio in the programme Sport circle

Excerpts:

Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme was just diagnosed of acute Leukaemia, what is the NFF doing to get a replacement for him?

It’s quite unfortunate as the news that broke, actually broke our hearts. We are in pensive mood because for Carl to be diagnosed with Leukaemia its quite a difficult time for both the young man and the Nigeria Football Federation. We only wish and pray that he pulls through.

By the grace of God we are going to support him all the way to every step  to his recovery and we have also given him to the hands of God because He is the greatest healer. There is nothing that is impossible in the hands of God.

Ikeme

We are sure he is going to pull through because Carl is a strong man, he is a fighter and I know that he is going to pull through by God’s grace. We are going to follow him all the way, give him all the support until he recovers fully from the ailment.

As regards replacement for Carl Ikeme, it is the responsibility of the coach Gernot Rohr to put his acts together to ge a suitable replacement for Carl Ikeme.

Coaches applying for various teams:

The technical committee sat last week and soon the technical committee would soon shortlist the suitable candidates and a day will be fixed for interviews for them. It will take a maximum of 15 days.

Rivers United and Nigerian teams on the continent

It’s not very good at all It is not something one should be happy about. Even Rivers United who got to the group stage of the Confederation Cup it’s the second tier of club competitions in the continent. I think we don’t deserve this. Nigeria is a big nation. We have enough teams that I feel should be able to hold their own in the continent of Africa. We had only Rivers United in the CAF Confederation League and they didn’t make it to the final stages that means in the semi finals and the final there will be no Nigerian team.

But again, a lot might be responsible for this and I know that as managers of the game, we are working to ensure that it does not occur again.

When is Gernot Rohr expected to drop his programme for the Cameroon games?

And when will the committee meet to review the plan?

Rohr has already given us his programme and we in the technical committee have been working round the clock to making sure that things are done properly. Ours is to make policies and the technical department is to give technical advice where necessary. Here again we are doing our little bit to ensure that Nigeria does well at that level because it is very dear to us; it very important to us and very important to Nigerians. That Nigeria should not be at the World Cup (God forbid) it will be a sad story to tell. It will also reflect in everything we do. We want to assure that we will leave no stone unturned to making sure that Nigeria gets to the World Cup. There is a lot to gain when we qualify for the World Cup.

It is a very serious business and we are approaching it with all the seriousness it deserves.

From a technical point of view, having seen what Cameroon did at the FIFA Confederations Cup, would that have any effect on the complexion of the plan for the Uyo match?

No two matches are the same. The best thing for us to do is to prepare very well on our own. It is not thinking about what others play. Ours is to make sure we prepare very well, pray for luck and then go there and play.

What is your summary of Nigerian players in this transfer season. Some have moved while some are still in the process of moving?

They had a quiet vacation which they deserve. Having toiled the entire season. Most of them are back to their clubs most have settled. Ours is to pray they have a fantastic pre-season so that when their season begins they will be playing very well which will also give us the benefit and advantage of having very fit players that are in very good form that will prosecute the remaining qualifying matches.

Rohr is on holidays in Germany. There are signals – call it rumour if you like – that he has threatened to resign.

It is not for me to debunk. You said there are signals that he threatened to resign. It is he that can answer this question, it is not for me to debunk

They are citing interference.

I have just told you that it is not in my position all I know is that Form the day Rohr was recommended to the Nigeria Football Federation, the technical committee has been in the doldrums, for almost 11 months now so I don’t know where the stories are coming from.

I don’t think such reports will augur well for Nigerian football. We need to get together so that we can forge ahead and qualify for the World Cup. This is an unnecessary distraction. All the same we are working hard to make sure we investigate the source of such a story because Rohr himself has denied the story. He said he never granted such interview.
