Nine children have been rescued with two suspected female human traffickers arrested by the Katsina State command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
The suspects, one Mrs. Deborah Adewunmi and Mrs. Moriliya Ibrahim, were arrested in the state capital following intelligence report by officers of the command.
The state Comptroller of Immigration, Mr. Ajisafe Joshua Olusola disclosed that the victims have been handed over to Kano zonal command of Immigration service for further investigation and prosecution.
According to the Ajisafe, “On 11th February at about 7.30pm, the Nigeria Immigration Service, Katsina State command through an intelligence report by the command provost intercepted two women and one man who are residing in Agadez in Niger Republic and nine trafficked minors aged 9 to 11 years.
“They started their journey from Lagos through Kano to Katsina with the mission to travel to Libya enroute Niger Republic without travel documents.
“It has been established that Mrs. Deborah Adewunmi, Moriliya Ibrahim, accompanied with the nine minors and one man confessed that they are going to meet Deborah’s husband, Mustapha Ibrahim, who is residing in Agadez Niger Republic to facilitate their journey to Libya.”
